I’m in the deepest darkest jungles of ferocious downtown Africa at the moment (yeah, science) and if I‘m not smoking crack again, all of my business meetings are jacked up by an hour because something in the NSLocale or time zone management is off by an hour, but apparently all over Namibia and parts of South Africa. This appears off on my Mac and on 1/2 of my iOS devices. If I set my Mac to set date and time automatically, it sets the date and time to 1 hour earlier than it is. Now, Apple sets it to 3:14PM when it’s really 4:14 PM. I have to set the time manually because of this, but this throws off all of my appointments when I accept them through Apple Mail. It’s been off like this since Doha and still is off all over Namibia and South Africa. The odd thing is that my iPad also has this problem, but none of my iPhones (one with a US SIM card and one with a local Namibian SIM card) have this problem. This sounds like something for Radar. So far, travelling the well-known world (the oddest being the canary islands), I have had any issues with that.
I have been tracking the back-and-forth of the DPRK timezone, but never travelled there or accepted meetings :p

AFAIK cell phones can determine time accurately via the cell transmission, so they are always accurate. Macs, and iOS devices without cell chips, on the other hand, don’t have that benefit nor a GPS chip as far as the Mac goes, so they can only infer location via your IP address, and that can be fairly sketchy in some locales. You may be able to verify this by putting your IP in ARIN and seeing what locale shows up, and see if it is a different time zone. In any case, I am inclined to think this is less an API issue as a limitation with the OS.

Hi Alex, Sorry to hear of your problem. I’m in Johannesburg, I’ve included my setting below which may help. Note that I set the region to Apple Europe and the system detects Johannesburg (if it selects Pretoria that’s fine too).
Can’t comment on the vagaries of mail, but I’ve not had a problem to date.
Ps Down here we tend to refer to “jungles” as “the Bush”

Slightly off topic, but... Veld or veldt(both Afrikaans and pronounced as “felt") refers to open, uncultivated grassland in southern Africa. “Bush" generally refers to thick vegetation consisting of small / medium shrubs and trees where animals tend to seek refuge.
